Our Story

Spencer’s Plate started in February 2017, when Garret Kun’s 7-year-old American Bulldog Spencer was unexplainably sick. After one particularly gruesome night, Garret threw out Spencer’s kibble and decided that Spencer, along with his siblings Ollie and Mattie, would eat nothing but proper meals designed for proper canine health.

From the very first cook, the health issues of the past years were replaced with energy, healthy weight, wagging tails, and barks for more.

Garret devoted himself to learning all he could about canine nutritional needs, with three very eager partners to test each new recipe. But before he was ready to share Spencer’s Plate with the world, Garret knew he had to find a partner to back up the nutrition behind the meals.

Garret’s search led him just down the road to the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Veterinary Medicine, where he found a nationally renowned Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist. Together, they perfected Garret’s recipe to ensure each Spencer’s Plate recipe is Complete & Balanced for All Life Stages (ALS) according to the nutritional levels established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO).

Nothing could have prepared Garret for the response to Spencer’s Plate. The orders flooded in, along with countless stories of health improvements seen by dogs who made the switch to Spencer’s Plate.

Needing a partner who shared his vision for the company, Garret found one in his nephew Ronan. Having seen the impact Spencer’s Plate meals had on his own dog JJ, Ronan knew that Garret had cooked up something that could change the world.

And just like that, Spencer’s Plate was born!
